A Cornucopia of Deliciousness –
One day, a friend of mine asked me, “Do you want to get cupcakes after school? There’s a cupcake place that just opened in the Byward Market.” Now, anyone who knows me should be completely aware of this, but in case you don’t know who I am, I’ll let you in on the secret: if an expedition involves chocolate, I’m there.
Three of my friends and I walked to the Market and found The Cupcake Lounge at 6 Byward Market. When we arrived, we were blown away by the aesthetics alone: the cupcakes all looked so yummy! Bewildered by the sheer number of flavours (some of the cupcakes are the same flavour, but have different icing flavours), we stood there for a while looking at the cupcakes.
We all wanted to try every flavour, but since each cupcake was $3.25, that unfortunately wasn’t going to happen. Just when the pressure of choosing became too much, one of my friends noticed two boxes sitting on top of the display case. They read, “Day-old dozen: $20” and “Day-old half-dozen: $12.” There were four of us, so we could buy a dozen and each pay five dollars for three cupcakes (which,
for those of you anti-math types, works out to $1.67 per cupcake—little more than half the regular price).
We jumped at this chance and took our box to the table outside the store. They ate one of theirs, and I may
have eaten two… Don’t judge me. I was drawn in by the perfect texture of the cupcakes (despite being a day old) and
the creamy taste of the icing. The combination makes it hard to eat only one. Since then, I have gone back twice,
and another time I got my friends to buy me one when they went and I could not go. Each time, I have left fully satisfied, and have so far tried Red Velvet, Chocolate-Chocolate, Peanut Butter
Chocolate Chip, Apple Caramel, and Banana cupcakes.
