The stage was set with piano and all, the comfy couches were up front and centre, and the corner table was stacked with cookies, cakes, and plenty of coffee on the evening of November 23rd in the school cafeteria. At this year’s Coffeehouse, hosted by the Lisgar Environmental Action Force (LEAF) club, fun was had by all as students and teachers gathered for a relaxing evening of entertainment, good food, and raffle prize giveaways. All the proceeds from admission and raffle tickets went to Ontario Nature, a charitable organization whose aim is to conserve and protect the province’s species and natural environment.
The performers were the real life of the party and several of them even had standing ovations and received calls of “Encore!” There were a number of performances from guitar soloists, as well as some duets of pianist and singer or guitarist and singer. However, the performances did not stop there, and some of the acts were rather unique. We had Max Smith play a Bach song on the bassoon and Aiden Prince kept the mood upbeat with his comedy skit. Also, how often do you get to hear the song from Internet quiz game Kahoot! played on a viola by LEAF club’s co-head Stuart Matthews? Spectators were even entertained during intermission when the students led a spontaneous dance to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”.
We all owe a big thank you to the emcees of the night, Drew Fraser-Leach and Peter MacDonald and congratulations to all the talented Lisgar students who performed, including Valerie Stiles Beale, Maya Bhargava, Maya Kropp-Lazar, Aidan Prince, Miasya Bulger, An Le, Charles Zhang, Simon Zhu, Alex Bombo, Marie Renaud, Bianca Pama, Tuan Nguyen, Jack Qi, Max Smith, Rinila Haridas, Jonah Nemiroff, Stuart Matthews, Anika Bousquet, and Jubal Hinin. LEAF club would also like to thank Bridgehead for supplying the coffee, and the following companies who provided raffle prizes: Bushtukah, The Green Door Restaurant, Pure Kitchen, Nectar Fine Teas, Ottawa Bagelshop and Deli, Terra20, Pure Gelato, Perfect Books, and the Herb and Spice Food Shop.
